# Suggestions and feedback

Anyone can tell us what's wrong, missing, or could be better, about a specific group or about DD itself, with or without an account.

## Two ways to leave a suggestion

| Where                                            | What it's about | What you fill in                               |
| ------------------------------------------------ | --------------- | ---------------------------------------------- |
| A group's page → **Suggestions** tab → **+ New** | That group      | A subject and a description                    |
| **Feedback** link at the bottom of any page | DD itself | What kind of feedback it is, and a description |

Use a group's page when your suggestion is about that group: its data, its decisions, how it's run. Use **Feedback** for anything about DD as a whole.

The kinds of feedback are:

* **This data looks wrong**: a number, name, date, or link that doesn't match the source
* **Feature idea**: something DD could do that it doesn't yet
* **Something's broken**: a page or button that doesn't work as expected
* **Other**: anything else

## With or without an account

You don't need an account to leave a suggestion.

|                         | Logged in                              | Not logged in                             |
| ----------------------- | -------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------- |
| Recorded as coming from | Your account | A shared "Anonymous" account |
| Email field | Not shown. We already know who you are | Optional. Leave one if you'd like a reply |

If your login has expired, we'll ask you to log in again rather than posting your suggestion anonymously. That way a suggestion never loses your name without you knowing.

## What's public

Each group's suggestions are listed on its **Suggestions** tab, showing each suggestion's text, kind of feedback, status, and date.

Who left a suggestion is never shown: no names, no email addresses, and no browser IDs (see below). Email addresses and browser IDs are only visible to DD's moderators.

## What happens next

Every suggestion starts as **New**, and its status changes as it's looked at and acted on. We're still shaping this process. If you have ideas for how suggestions should be handled, leave one.

## Anonymous submissions

When you leave a suggestion without logging in, we put a small, random ID in your browser. It lets us tell that two anonymous suggestions came from the same browser, without knowing who you are.

This ID:

* Is random. It isn't your name, email address, or IP address, and isn't built from them
* Is stored with your suggestion, but only DD's moderators can see it
* Is never shared with third parties or used for advertising or analytics
* Expires after 90 days

We only place it when you actually submit something, not when you visit. Because it's needed for anonymous suggestions to work, it doesn't ask for separate cookie consent. Wikipedia classifies its equivalent for anonymous editors the same way.

## Older suggestions

Suggestions left before October 2026 aren't linked to any account. They'll stay that way. That's expected, not a fault.
